Calgary Real Estate Experts
Hey.
I’m Natalie.
Licensed Realtor® & Director of Natalie Berthiaume Group
I didn’t always know that I wanted to be a Realtor®. I did, however, know that I loved people and I wanted to help them. When I failed to fully embrace my University education, I decided it was time to change tack. I saved my money and at 23 years old, I moved to Europe on my own. Having obtained a working holiday visa, I managed to spend the next two years working in the Channel Islands in a variety of unique opportunities; the most interesting probably being a summer spent in a tent working at a campground near the beach. Those two years taught me so much about trusting my gut and following my own path.
From there, I moved to Barbados where I worked as a nanny. I matured a lot during that experience and it was during that time that I wrote down and fully absorbed the values and lessons my parents had worked so hard to impart on my know-it-all twenty-year-old self. Some of these are still central to my business.
Once that experience was over, I spent a summer back in Windsor, Ontario where I am originally from. When September hit, I moved to Kananaskis to do 911 dispatching for Fire, EMS & Parks. Taking high-stress calls and keeping calm in those situations really helped me to develop a solution-oriented perspective, and to this day, you’ll rarely see me panic.
After a year of this, my Dad suggested that I consider a career in real estate, he thought I had the personality for it since I am definitely what you’d call a “people person”. It was a piece of excellent advice and it’s what led me to move to Calgary and get my toes wet as a real estate assistant. I did this for two years and really learned the ropes. During that second year, I also started working on getting my real estate license. It was a big step, but by that point, I knew it was the path I was meant to take.
My first year as a licensed Realtor® was not at all glamourous. I rented an apartment on the 9th floor of a shabby building that had a temperamental elevator. I never knew what floor it would let me out at, and sometimes I started to sweat (but not panic!). I drove a green Dodge Neon that my brother nicknamed “The Booger”. It had crank windows and push locks and this was when Realtors® always drove their clients to look at homes. None of my clients complained (outwardly!), and I feel so grateful to this day that they believed in me.
Two years later, I fell (literally…but you have to ask me to hear the story) in love with Dustin. I knew he was “the one” sooner than he did. He lived in Airdrie and so this is where the rest of my story would be. A couple of years later, happily married and in my sixth year in Real Estate, I discovered my multi-tasking skills that were honed so well in this industry translated really well to motherhood. There wasn’t much I felt I couldn’t handle…until I had another child 18 months later. Those next couple of years were a real challenge, but I managed to keep my business (and kids) alive.
After 8 years as a Realtor®, I hired a business coach and he transformed my thinking. I started to dream bigger and work harder.
After 9 years, I hired Danielle as my Assistant and she has been a game-changer. She has given me the gift of time and with her unwavering confidence in me and incredible attention to detail, I decided it was time to grow again…with her help.
In 2020 (10 years later), Natalie Berthiaume Group was created and Lindsay Bosma joined the team. I tried every tactic to talk Lindsay out of working with me and I know I was very persuasive. When she continuously refused to take the bait, I knew that she was steadfast in her commitment and absolutely the best possible choice.
We are a strong group of women that support each other enormously in our Airdrie community and strive for excellence every single day. It has been an incredibly empowering experience to evolve from some pretty humble beginnings. This career is something that I have nurtured, but it has also nurtured me. I count my blessings and I really can’t wait to see what the next ten years bring!
