This month’s Women in Airdrie Killin’ It spotlight is on Patricia Duggan, owner of Funky Petals Airdrie. This is a locally owned and operated florist that opened in June of 2020. They are a business committed to servicing the city of Airdrie with floral arrangements that are unique and add a funky flair to people’s day! This business is dedicated to making people’s lives and happier for anyone who comes into the store or receives their product. Flowers are a staple for all occasions — both joyful and not — and they are happy to make statement pieces for all who need them. So many women that create their own version of a satisfying life define success based on the control they have over their own destiny. We love how Patricia defines success. When asked, she stated,
“Success is not necessarily making the most money possible. It is about enjoying what you are doing and enjoying the time you spend with other people sharing that success. I personally left a very lucrative career to open this shop, and I have never been happier.”
It’s also inspiring to us that so many women have the grit and stamina to stick with it, even when things are hard. We asked Patricia if she could offer a piece of advice to someone thinking of starting their own business and she replied, “If it was easy, everyone would do it. Don’t give up, keep working towards your goals, even if it takes a lot of time and dedication. Be willing to change, and never stop striving to improve.” The truth is that being a business leader means evolving and changing. You need to be willing to put in the work and it needs to give you purpose.
