This month’s Women in Airdrie Killin’ It Feature is on Kim Purvis of Aurora Decor.
Aurora Decor is a local interior decorating and design/renovation consultation company. Owner and designer, Kim, delivers creativity, professionalism, and the skills for bringing the vision you have for you home or office to life. If you can’t see the vision for your space, she is happy to help you see it. And trust us, this woman is a miracle worker! Her keen sense of design and sharp eye have saved me a LOT of design limbo.
In life, some of us are lucky enough to have incredible role models which provide the blueprint of the person we strive to become. For Kim, her Dad is her role model. As she eloquently puts it, “He wasn’t an entrepreneur himself but he absolutely fostered my desire to become one and to this day encourages me in my business. Every business, committee, and ministry he’s managed was done with hard work, integrity, and a ton of heart.”
Kim operates from the same place and you can tell she’s incredibly passionate about what she does.
So many women have different versions of what success means, which is why it’s one of my favourite questions to ask. It offers a tiny (but great!) snapshot of the values and goals that each woman upholds the most. When I asked Kim how she defines success, her reply was:
“Success for me is the joy of using my skills and talents to make our world a better place while providing for my family in meaningful ways.”
When someone strives to give back to the community with their family as a central focus, you can be damn sure they’re making Airdrie a better place! Kim’s advice for anyone considering an entrepreneurial career path is to be crystal clear in your “WHY” so when things get tough (and they undoubtedly will), you’ll be able to look back and remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing. Some people are meant for this life and as Kim recalls, she’s wanted to be an entrepreneur for as long as she can remember. “I legit used to play ‘office’ and actually made a fort office… complete with a draw-bridge as a 10-year-old!” I imagine she was in high-demand way back then for re-arranging bedrooms and seeing things from a unique perspective! 😉
Kim’s favourite thing about Airdrie? “I love Airdrie for its amazing location — proximity to the mountains, the airport, and Calgary. I also love Airdrie for the strong community spirit. There are so many options to help, celebrate, and get involved!”
We are so lucky to have Kim in our community. You can get in touch with her via the contact information listed below!
