Spotlight: Pistol Ink Tattoo Studio
As women, we typically face the additional challenge of balancing our work with motherhood. Being an entrepreneur adds an extra layer of pressure to an already full-time job, but there are some incredible benefits to those that persevere! That’s just a small part of why we’re committed to featuring Airdrie businesses every month that are owned and operated by the incredible powerhouse women in our community.
This month, we’re featuring Stephanie Culp, owner of Pistol Ink Tattoo Studio. In her words,
“Becoming an entrepreneur was so important to me. I was determined to be able to stay home with my two young children, while also being able to provide for them. Those younger years are so precious and they go by in the blink of an eye. Some days were definitely more challenging than others but I wouldn’t have traded it for anything.”
It takes a ton of courage and grit to create the life you want and our little team at Yellow Brick Road has so much admiration for Stephanie and the work ethic she exemplifies.
Stephanie has been tattooing since 2007 and privatized in 2010, shortly before her daughter was born. She is a one-woman operation and manages correspondence, bookings, tattooing (of course!), and designs. Her licensed and inspected private tattoo studio operates out of Luxstone in Airdrie and offers an amazing personal and relaxing environment. Her favorite things to tattoo are florals (bright colors or black and grey), anything traditional, and she loves doing reworks and coverups of old pieces.
We asked her, “What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?”
Not surprisingly, she had some very wise words.
“I know it’s such a cliché, but it’s definitely to focus on one day (thing) at a time. I feel like if you are trying to focus on too many things all at once, whether it is working on a large tattoo or just everyday life, it gets so completely overwhelming that you’re not able to enjoy the little, quieter moments.”
Amen, girl! We couldn’t agree more.
If you’re wanting to become a business owner and seeking some advice, Stephanie recommends doing the leg work. “It can be a long and bumpy road. You have to stick it out; don’t quit. It really is the best of both worlds. At the end of the day, you have to answer to yourself, you are on the hook for getting the work done no matter what life throws at you. That’s a lot of responsibility for one person and if you can find a balance, then you will do great.”
When asked what she loves most about Airdrie, Stephanie said, “I love the small-town vibe Airdrie still has. I’ve watched this city grow rapidly my entire life and yet it still has such a strong sense of community. Some of the friendships I’ve gained living in Airdrie are ones that will last forever and I feel like that is really important at this point in my life.”
Her favorite Airdrie businesses are:
